Day Five: Carriage Hill

Writer's picture: Letty WeimerLetty Weimer

Today my class and I went to Carriage Hill Farm, it was very fun. At Carriage Hill, you can see old barns, animals, and old houses. You almost get a peek at what life used to be like in the 19th century. One of the most enjoyable parts of my day was petting all the animals. A little sheep walked up to me so I could pet her, I sat with her for at least 15 minutes. Afterwards I decided to play in the creek, the cool water was very refreshing on a hot day. Lastly, I went on a walk up to an old house and barn. The house was very pretty on the outside, but I didn’t go in.

I think living on a farm can help people live deliberately because on a farm, you have day to day tasks that must be completed. I think with that kind of strict schedule, it would be easy to always make choices that benefit you, and your family. Even though being on a farm is a lot of hard work, there are simple things that can bring a lot of joy to someone. Little things like petting an animal or playing on a tree swing could be very entertaining, and it could remind people not to take anything for granted.

Farm Tree

The sun rises as beams of light cover my trunk. I stretch my branches up to the clouds as dew drips from my leaves. Across the field, a little boy and his father run towards me. The father is carrying a large rope while the boy tugs on his fingers. “Hurry up Pa”, the boy says. I wonder what the rope is for. Once the boy and his pa arrive, the man begins to scale my branches. He climbs up to my tallest branch and begins to knot the rope across my limb. I am very confused, what is this rope for? Once the man climbs down from my branches, he gives the rope a strong tug. The little boy smiles with glee as he climbs on to the rope. “Push me Pa”, the boy yells. The man approached the boy and grabbed him by his shirt-tail, he pulled the boy up high, and released his grip from the shirt. With a big smile on his face, the boy went flying through the air. Back and forth, the boy swung through the air. He sat on the rope until his mother called for dinner. I hope the boy comes back tomorrow.
